Seoraksan Tour Overview  -  Sokcho Pickup & Seoul Drop-off

Experience one of Korea’s most spectacular and challenging mountain adventures on the legendary Dinosaur Ridge (Gongnyong Ridge) in Seoraksan National Park.

Your adventure begins with an early-morning pickup from your hotel in Sokcho at approximately 4:30 AM. After completing the full Dinosaur Ridge hike, your private guide will drive you directly to Seoul, allowing you to continue your Korea journey without returning to Sokcho.

The complete hiking route covers approximately 20 km and normally requires 11–13 hours, featuring steep climbs, rocky terrain, dramatic granite ridges and a long descent through the beautiful Cheonbuldong Valley.

This is a very strenuous hike recommended only for experienced hikers with excellent physical fitness.

Drive to Seoul:  Approx. 2.5–3 hours

Seoul Arrival:  Approx. 7:00–9:00 PM

Seorakdong → Biseondae   Approx. 3 km / 30–45 minutes

The hike begins along a relatively gentle valley trail, providing a good warm-up before the steep mountain ascent.

 

Biseondae → Madeungnyeong    Approx. 3.5 km / 2.5–3 hours

From Biseondae, begin the major ascent toward Madeungnyeong.

The trail climbs steeply through forest, stone steps and rocky terrain. As you gain elevation, spectacular views of Seoraksan's granite peaks begin to appear.

Madeungnyeong → Dinosaur Ridge

Upon reaching Madeungnyeong, enter the famous Dinosaur Ridge (Gongnyong Ridge).

The ridge is named after its jagged granite peaks, which resemble the spine of a dinosaur.

 

Dinosaur Ridge Traverse   Approx. 5.1 km / 4–5 hours

This is the highlight and most demanding section of the hike.

The route follows a spectacular high mountain ridge with repeated steep ascents and descents, rocky terrain and narrow mountain passages.

Some steep sections are equipped with fixed ropes and metal railings.

Throughout the ridge, enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of Seoraksan's dramatic granite peaks and deep valleys.

Dinosaur Ridge → Sinseondae → Muneomi Pass

After completing the main ridge traverse, continue toward Sinseondae and descend toward Muneomi Pass near Huiungak Shelter.

From here, begin the long descent through Cheonbuldong Valley.

Muneomi Pass → Cheonbuldong Valley → Biseondae → Seorakdong

Approx. 7–9 km / 3–4 hours

Descend through the beautiful Cheonbuldong Valley, following mountain streams and passing waterfalls, dramatic cliffs and granite rock formations.

Continue through Biseondae and return to Seorakdong.

Important Safety Information

Dinosaur Ridge is a demanding high-mountain route. Although it is a designated National Park trail, hikers should be prepared for steep climbs and descents, rocky and uneven terrain, long hours of physical activity and rapidly changing mountain weather.

The route may be changed, shortened or cancelled due to adverse weather, trail closures, National Park regulations or safety concerns
