3days Highlights of Jeju Island Tour (UDO island)
Jejudo is a volcanic island formed over a long period of many volcanic eruptions.
In recognitions of the island's unique volcanic landscapes and biodiversity, the entire island was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage list as "Jeju Volcanic island and lava tubes." The towering Hallasan Mountain occupies the center of Island and covers an enormous area, and parasitic cones and basalt are spread throughout the island-indicative of Jeju-do's past volcanic activity. The island is not only blessed with natural wonders, but its tourism sector is well developed.
The wide island is divided into Jeju-si in the north, Seogwipo-si in the south, and Hallasan Mountain at its center, so travelers should plan their itineraries well in advance.
Day 1 Move to Jeju, Jeju Island tour
Hyeopjae Beach is located on the west side of Hanrim-eup. The beautiful white color of the sand comes from the large amounts of crushed seashells that have been mixed in with the sand. The long seashore stretches for 9 km and has cobalt colored seawater and evergreen forests scattered around the vicinity, making the scenery very beautiful.
Hanrim Park nearby provides interesting tour sites such as a subtropical arboretum, Hyeopjaegul Cave, and Ssangyonggul Cave. It is a great place for a relaxing family vacation.
O'sulloc Green tea field & Museum
Then you are going O'sulloc Tea Museum where teaches visitors about Korea's traditional tea culture.
The "O" in "O'sulloc ", means to appreciate and enjoy. You can enjoy unique O'sulloc teas and can relax next to the lotus pond in the indoor garden. Also, you can enjoy the views of the nearby green tea fields and the surrounding landscape. There is a huge green tea plantation which allures the visitors with a very pleasant odor of green tea.
Jeju Island's very own Grand Canyon!
When you arrive at the entrance to the Yongmeori Coast you will first be greeted by a reproduction of the shop that brought Hendrick Hamel to the shores of Jeju in 1653. Hamel, along with some other surviving crew members, shipwrecked off this spot and his written accounts provide the first Western insights into Joseon Korean. This area is made of sandstone, built up over millions of years and is one of the 66Geoparks in the world. It looks as if a dragon’s head is going underwater. You marvel at this uniquely beautiful coastline.
Tangerine picking experience (Available for Dec ~ Feb)
The tangerine is one of Jeju’s most famous products. Many types are grown on Jeju, and each season has a specialty. While the “noji gamgyul” is grown in open fields, others like the “Hallabong,” a fat and juicy citrus created especially for Jeju, and the “cheonhaehyang,” a fragrant and sweet fruit, are grown in greenhouses.
The gamgyul or tangerine picking is one of the popular group activity in Jeju Island. Autumn and winter are the best times to enjoy tangerine pickings in Jeju. Go and enjoy the fruit picking fun at one of the following farms in Jeju Island.
Day 2 Jeju Island tour
Daepo Jusangjeolli Cliff (UNESCO)
The Jusangjeolli are stone pillars piled up along the coast and is a designated cultural monument of Jejudo Island. The Jusangjeolli Cliff was formed when the lava from Mt.Hallasan erupted into the sea of Jungmun.
They are rock pillars shaped like cubes or hexagons of various sizes and almost seem as if stonemasons had carved them out.
Seogwipo Submarine offers safe undersea tours in its recently acquired state of the art submarine from Finland. Munseom, where the submarine travels, is home to outstanding coral reefs, colorful schools of fish, and rich seaweed. The exquisite landscape makes it one of the most beautiful places to dive as well. Going deep into the 40 meter sea-bed, visitors can see countless fish, rare iridescent coral reefs, and a surreal-looking shipwreck with schools of fish surrounding it.
Seongeup Folk village
You will head to the Seongeup Folk Village. Located at the foot of Halla Mountain, Seongeup Folk Village is a small town that holds a vast amount of culture. You can see that there are various residential houses, shrines of Confucius, schools and ancient government offices, millstones and ruins of fortresses. Also, you can see the unique culture of Jeju Island: The black lava rock walls, the straight but curvy alleys to block the wind, and the stone grandfather statues(Harubang), which have become a prime feature of the landscape. The local black-haired pigs and tongsi (pigsty / restroom) are especially well-known characteristics of Jeju folk culture.
Next stop is Seongsan Ilchulbong(Sunrise Peak)
It is one of the special places that it's a tuff cone crater that was formed when a volcano erupted under the ocean. The crater is about 600m in diameter and 90m high. With the 99 sharp rocks surrounding the crater, it looks like a gigantic crown. Also, The Seongsan Ilchulbong peak surrounded by bright yellow colored canola flower in the spring is truly a sight to behold. Very unique and special place to experience typical springtime in Jeju Island. Haenyeo refers to female divers who dive into the ocean water to gather various shellfish, seaweed, etc, without using any underwater diving equipment. When diving underwater, a haenyeo carries only a pair of goggles, a round ball-like tube to keep her balance, and a basket to put her collections in. It is free to watch this amazing woman diver demonstration at this park. Don't miss it.
