Mt. Jirisan Ridge Traverse for 2days

Jirisan is Korea's first national park and one of the country's most iconic hiking destinations. This 2-day trek follows the famous Jirisan Main Ridge Trail, starting from Seongsamjae (Seongsamjae Pass) and traversing the mountain ridge to Cheonwangbong (1,915 m), the highest peak in Jirisan National Park. Along the way, hikers enjoy sweeping mountain vistas, peaceful forests, alpine ridges, and well-maintained mountain shelters, making this one of Korea's premier multi-day hiking experiences.
Major Peaks & Highlights
Nogodan(1,507 m): One of Jirisan's signature peaks, Nogodan is famous for its wide-open summit, alpine meadows, and magnificent panoramic views over the surrounding mountain ranges.
Hwagaejae: A scenic mountain pass along the main ridge, surrounded by dense forests and serving as an important junction for hikers traversing Jirisan.
Chilseonbong: A rugged ridgeline peak offering excellent views toward Cheonwangbong and the dramatic central section of Jirisan National Park.
Cheonwangbong (1,915 m): The highest peak in Jirisan National Park and the second-highest mountain on the Korean mainland. It is renowned for its breathtaking sunrise, expansive mountain scenery, and symbolic importance among Korean hikers.

Day 1
Seongsamjae Pass

Your guide will pick you up from your accommodation in Seoul and transfer you to Seongsamjae Pass, the starting point of your Jirisan adventure. After arriving at Seongsamjae at approximately 8:00 AM, you will have time for a light breakfast and a short rest before beginning the hike.
The trek starts around 8:30 AM with a gentle uphill walk to Nogodan (1,507 m), one of Jirisan National Park's most famous viewpoints. From the summit, enjoy spectacular panoramic views of the surrounding mountain ranges before continuing along the scenic main ridge.
The trail follows the classic Jirisan Ridge Traverse, passing Imgeollyeong, Hwagaejae, and Yeonhacheon Shelter. Along the way, hikers are rewarded with beautiful forests, open ridgelines, and ever-changing mountain scenery. By late afternoon, you will arrive at Byeoksoryeong Shelter, where you will spend the night in the heart of Korea's oldest national park, surrounded by the peaceful atmosphere of the high mountains.
Imgeollyong
Beoksoryeong Shelter
You will continue your hike along the trail toward the Beoksoryeong shelter - your goal for the first day. The shelter is a large room with a wooden structure that has numbered spots for about 36 people, giving each one a spot on a wooden platform that is equal to the footprint of a sleeping bag. Bring your earplugs!

Day 2
Seseok

Chotdaebong peak

The trail measures 5.5km from Byeoksoryeong Shelter to Seseok Shelter, which is the next main resting spot along the ridge. During this stretch, there are several ups and downs that include great lookouts in every direction. Continuing to head eastward along the ridge it’s a long and steady climb from Seseok Shelter up to Chotdaebong Peak.
Yeonhabong Peak
Chenwangbong Peak

After departing Byeoksoryeong Shelter early in the morning, the trail follows the spectacular central ridge of Jirisan, passing Seonbisaem and Chilseonbong before reaching Jangteomok Shelter, the final major rest stop before the summit.
From Jangteomok, it is a steady 1.7 km climb to Cheonwangbong Peak (1,915 m), the highest summit in Jirisan National Park. The summit rewards hikers with breathtaking 360-degree views across the surrounding mountain ranges and is regarded as one of Korea's most iconic hiking destinations.
After enjoying the summit, the trail descends through Rotary Shelter to Jungsan-ri Village, where the hiking adventure comes to an end. From Jungsan-ri, you will take a taxi back to Seongsamjae Parking Lot, where your vehicle is waiting. You will then depart for Seoul, arriving back around midnight.
